SO MUCH (BENEFIT) FOR SO LITTLE (COST) !

For the great advantage and relative assurance derived from our environmental management system and the special care that we undertake, a comparatively small cost is incurred.

A few of the steps we take, are listed below:
- For the benefit of the whole Keymax fleet, we have carried out Initial Environmental Reviews/Inspections on 24% of our vessels, in order to ascertain the areas in which we were lacking.

- Established Environmental Training and Education for ALL crew, at the training centers in Manila, Tianjin, Dalian and Pusan.

- Established an Environmental Protection Policy and a Manual in English, which is translated into Japanese and Chinese, to enumerate the requirements for safely practicing Environmental Management, in our vessels with multi-national crew.

- Implemented a sealing system for sealing flanges on critical piping systems in the Engine Room, in order to completely nullify, as far as practicable, any connection points for illegal discharges.

- Carried out Bilge-sampling and laboratory testing of the sample, for determining the average bilge content. We have also shared the same information with 2 Oily Water Separator (OWS) manufacturers to help in improving their equipment design.

- Applied special fittings on crucial pollution prevention equipment and associated piping, e.g. Lockable valve on Oil Content Monitor, Ship-specific seals, chains, bolts, nuts, etc. etc. again, to negate any illegal discharges.

- Established documentation such as specific log books and forms for Recording and reporting of Environmental Management matters. These also form the basis for comparative analysis of the waste stream.

- Internal audits carried out by Company superintendents.

- External audits carried out by external auditors.

- Oil Pollution Act 1990 (OPA-90) training and certification for ALL our seafarers.
