Onboard Maintenance

Onboard Maintenance, or OBM, is planned maintenance and repair performed by the crew while a ship is in operation. This can produce the following results:

Safety

Planned Maintenance and hull and engine repair make possible risk reduction and the guarantee of safe voyages.

Economy

Reduction of total repair costs (including dock costs).

Higher rate of operations due to reduced dock time.

Regular maintenance and repairs make possible lengthened ship life expectancy.

Extended ship life will make ships valuable after write-off.


The maintenance schedules for vessel's equipment (divided into 42 primary, 130 middle and 1,400 low level categories) are managed electronically onshore and aboard.
